Fire defines:
at the beginning, all flames
go somewhere

(Only to the pace of animals resembles that of fire:
it twitches from a place
to occupy another; it walks like
an ameba and a giraffe together,
its neck jumps, its foot slithers)
…

Then, while the methodically contaminated
masses collapse, the released emissions
slowly unfurl

into a single
parade
of butterflies
